The CUB Study is Currently Recruiting Pregnant Women Interested in Contributing to Science
Who Can Participate?
We are recruiting participants for two study groups:
Participants who have used any cannabis during pregnancy
- Ages 21-45 years old
- Under 20 weeks pregnant
- Located in Washington or Oregon, with the ability to attend in-person visits in Seattle (see timeline below)
- Used any cannabis products during pregnancy
Participants who have not used cannabis during pregnancy
- Ages 21-45 years old
- Under 20 weeks pregnant
- Located in Washington or Oregon, with the ability to attend in-person visits in Seattle (see timeline below)
- Have not used any cannabis products during pregnancy
Additional screening will be conducted to further determine eligibility. Some recruitment may include only a subset of the eligibility criteria listed above and/or certain demographic characteristics needed for matching.
During Screening, our team will also ask questions about substance use, pregnancy, medication and more. All collected information is confidential, and will not be retained for those who are screened but do not participate.
What Does Participation Involve?
- In-person questionnaires and assessments
- Infant MRI brain scan(s)
- Urine samples for drug testing and analysis
- If you are a cannabis user, weekly diaries throughout your pregnancy to track your cannabis use

Compensation and Benefits
$700-$1,080 for complete participation, plus $300 for the additional MRI component, and opportunities for bonuses.
Images of your baby’s brain, safely scanned by MRI.
Developmental feedback reports from our licensed clinicians at 6 and 18 months.
Complimentary one-day parking for each visit date.

Our initial screening form collects basic contact information including your name, email, phone number, and a few questions about your eligibility. Health information will only be collected during secure screening with our research team.
